Privacy Policy

The app has no accounts and no sign-in. Data you enter in the app (guns, loads, matches, shot data) is stored on your device and is not uploaded to us. The app makes two kinds of request to a service we run at api.wristdope.com, described under Weather data and Version checks. Neither request includes an account, a unique device identifier or your precise location.

To calculate firing solutions, the app uses the following data on your device:

• Location — used on-device for compass heading and altitude, and, if you turn on automatic weather, rounded to a grid about 5 km (3 miles) across before it is sent to request local weather.
• Motion and orientation — used on-device to measure the angle of your device.
• Gun and load profiles — saved on your device so they persist between launches.

Automatic weather is optional; temperature, pressure and humidity can be entered by hand. When it is on, the app sends your location, rounded to about 5 km, to obtain local conditions.

On iPhone and Apple Watch, the app sends the rounded location directly from your device to Apple's WeatherKit, under Apple's Privacy Policy. It does not pass through a service of ours.

On Android and Wear OS, the app sends the rounded location to our service at api.wristdope.com over an encrypted connection, together with a token that changes daily, the app version, your device model and your operating system version. Our service forwards the rounded location to Apple's WeatherKit and returns the conditions to the app. Conditions for a rounded location may be cached by our service for up to six hours. The daily token is used to limit abuse of the service and expires within 24 hours. On Android phones, the request for the daily token includes a Play Integrity verdict from Google Play — see Third parties.

When you open the app it may ask our service whether a newer version is available and whether we have a notice to show. This happens on every platform. The request carries the platform, the app's version and build number, your device model and your operating system version.

The following providers receive data in connection with the app and this website:

• Apple— weather, on every platform. On iPhone and Apple Watch the app asks Apple's WeatherKit directly; on Android and Wear OS our service asks on the app's behalf. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Vercel— hosting for our service and for this website. As our hosting provider, Vercel receives the network address of each request, along with the request path and the app version, device model and operating system version described above, and keeps its own request logs for a limited period. Vercel also provides this website's analytics and the datastore for waitlist signups, described below.
• Upstash— the database behind our service's counters, provisioned through Vercel. It holds the daily token counters and the aggregate daily counts described under What we keep.
• Google — on Android phones only. Play Integrity, a Google Play service, tells our service whether the app requesting weather is the genuine Wrist Dope app.
• Resend — delivers the waitlist emails described under Waitlists.

Weather requests, version checks and the daily token are not kept as individual records; the token's counters expire within 24 hours. We keep aggregate daily counts of requests by platform, app version, operating system version and device model, which carry no identifier, for up to 400 days. Weather for a rounded location is cached for up to six hours. Waitlist email addresses are kept as described below.

Data you enter in the app can be deleted in the app or by removing the app from your device; we hold no copy of it. To request deletion of a waitlist email address, email support@wristdope.com.

The wristdope.com website (not the app) uses Vercel Web Analytics, a cookieless, aggregated analytics service. For each page view it records the URL, referrer, country/region, device type, and browser/OS.

Waitlist signups on this site are closed. If you joined a waitlist, we hold the email address you gave us, the product you asked about, and, if you selected one, the watch or phone model, stored in a datastore hosted by Vercel on our behalf. We use that email address to tell you when the product you asked about becomes available. That email may also mention other Wrist Dope products, such as our apps and Watch Mounts. No newsletters, and no marketing from anyone else. Resend delivers those emails.

Every such email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email support@wristdope.com to unsubscribe or to have your address deleted. Waitlist email addresses are kept until the product ships and the list is wound down, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete yours, whichever comes first.

Wrist Dope is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date.
